This ordinary Post Office houses a very extraordinary piece of history. The Lyons Post Office is home to one of the very few remaining sculptures commissioned by the Section of Fine Arts, a federal government program created to commission artist to create public paintings and sculptures for public buildings, including many rural post offices. Once considered to be white-collar work done by boondogglers, the artwork and murals that still exist are modern-day treasures.
